In JAPN 304 we focused on the translation/interpretation between Japanese and English on various sources from manga to a television show. We started with a book on translation, on which we had a test, before moving onto primary sources in Japanese for translation and interpretation. We had two final assessments, a Japanese to English interpretation of a Japanese television show and a English to Japanese translation of newspaper picture captions.
This course satisfied one of my Major Learning Outcomes for Japanese. The Major Learning Outcome that this class satisfies is MLO 1: Japanese Language and Communication. This course was taught primarily in Japanese, with a few explanations in English. We talked almost entirely in Japanese during class and did all of our course work in Japanese, only using English when focusing on translation/interpretation between the two languages. This class further improved my skill level.
